Well, I do love looking at Golden Gate Bridge, but I don't think I've ever laughed as hard as I laugh when I think about the archon doing damage. It is so amusing, I decided to spice up my desktop background with this humor. Behold my new background. Observe that I am now officially L337.... or not.
That may very well be the most epic desktop background I've ever seen.
ReplyDeletethis morning i put it on "show me the money" and I built only archons with all my supply. I am working on trying to make screen shots, but it was really hilarious. I didn't realize that archons "buzzed" but when you have about 50 of them (I had a few zealots, too, so that i could protect my gateways while making archons), they're great!!
ReplyDeleteArchons are hilarious! You know, I just realized yesterday that the dark archon has a completely different sprite than the regular archon (it's not just recolored). I always knew the death animation was different, but the whole sprite is different -- the dark archon looks a lot cooler, but 100% less hilarious!
ReplyDeleteAfter our epic mass-archons game last night, I'm making it my new goal to try and actually integrate dark archons into my Protoss strategy. It seems silly not to, especially since my usual Protoss build is mass ground/quick templar tech. I never get around to actually researching maelstrom/mind control, though -- it always seems like the dark templar are just too useful to keep by themselves! Mind control is sort of gimmicky, but I think that maelstrom could be really useful, especially against late-game zerg air (guardians+mutas+devourers). It's like a combination of lockdown and stasis field that is the best of both worlds. Plus, feedback is cheap, you don't have to research it, and if I got in the habit of using it, it would be awesome at 'sniping' enemy templar; the temp wouldn't even have to be at 100% energy to be killed by it. Also would be great at neutralizing annoying science vessels and arbiters, and can take out a good chunk of a battlecruiser's life (especially since sometimes Terran players don't even have Yamato researched, so the battlecruisers just accumulate energy with no way to spend it...same way with corsairs and disruption web, actually, since it's definitely possible to have a lot of sairs and never research D-web). And, of course, sniping those godawful defilers -- especially them, because they're constantly at 100% energy because they can consume to replenish it... Hmm. Possibilities!
Yeah, I feel the same, but I have also thought, mind control could be pretty useful, if used right... imagine if you mind controlled a dropship about to drop some tanks on your base and let them out on the base they came from instead! Or you mind controlled the tanks shooting at you across water.... or you mind control a lurker in your base... or best yet (this is my goal) you go SCV fishing and build a terran base next to your protoss base-- in a long game I would be curious if you could "combine units"-- is it possible to fill a drop ship with archons? That would be amazing.
ReplyDeleteI agree-- the dark archon looks cool, but he is different than the regular archon, and not nearly as funny. I love the regular archon much more!
Yeah, if you can manage to hit a fully loaded dropship with a mind control, that's awesome! Upon reflection, I wonder if I didn't have it backwards -- maelstrom is actually more gimmicky than mind control, I think. It's true that MC depletes your shields, but then, a dark archon is not a priority target for anything, since it can't attack...hmm. And carrier steals are for the WIN!
ReplyDeleteI don't know how to play with maelstrom well enough yet, but I do enjoy mind control. I may have to play some comps and practice it more. I am telling you, as lame as it sounds, last night I lay in my bed and played SC while listening to some John Mayer music and the sound of the ice freezing over the roof-- it was pretty chill!
ReplyDeleteI'd just like to say: that double entendre won the internet. And if by "lame" you mean "awesome," then yeah, that was a completely lame way to spend your night.
